Hey all! Hope you’re all doing well and keeping busy with schoolwork and your own projects, cuz, looks like we’re all gonna have some free time in the next few weeks. With that in mind, I wanted to bring a few things to you all while in semi-lockdown. The first is a reminder if you’re looking for some fun stuff to watch check out my previous blog post here. And again, check out BoB and Mubi for free stuff to watch, then come join me on letterboxd to share your thoughts on the films and keep up with us on The Film Society’s IG @rul.film where Hannah’s been posting interesting film picks.
My main reason for posting this blog is to share some of the resources I’ve accrued with everyone to give you all a number of items to study while we’ve got time to do so. I’ve also reached out to the teachers for them to add more things they might find helpful as well, so we’ll be adding more stuff all the time.
Inside the SU Film Council Film Docs Folder you’ll find three folders; the main one is the Scripts, Bibles, & Treatments folder where you’ll find feature film and TV scripts, TV bibles, and treatments & pitch documents. The feature scripts are from all across the board; from animated films like 101 Dalmations, to recent scripts for films like Free Guy (you know, the new one with Ryan Reynolds), the Oscar winning and nominated scripts from 2000-2017, The Blacklist scripts from 2016, and I’ve just added the The 2019 Blacklist scripts with a forward from our very own Hallie Hudkins (see below). The TV Bibles and Treatments & Pitch Docs are pretty interesting with a range of different projects like Adventure Time, Terminator, True Detective, and Stranger Things. There’s also Rick and Morty scripts in TV Scripts!!!
The other two folders are more boring, but useful. The PrePro Docs are for budgets and call sheets and the like. Misc Docs have different docs that might be useful for learning, such as ‘The 11 Laws of Showrunning’ and Ted’s ‘How to Write a Feature in 14 Days’ doc, so check them out.

For those that don’t know, The Black List is a list of scripts “compiled from the suggestions of over 250 film executives, each of whom contributed the names of up to ten favorite scripts that were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2019 and will not have begun principal photography during this calendar year.” Thescripts on this list are an insight into what is up and coming in the film industry. These scripts were voted as the best through some of the most well-known production companies. Although these scripts are different stories, genres, and overall tone, they are similar in the fact they represent the future of the industry and what’s trending.
Below is a summary of a couple of my favorite scripts that you should definitely check out!
Don’t Worry Darling
This script is a powerful look into the lifestyle of a couple in the “50’s.” Gender roles are fully enforced as Clifford goes to work and Evelyn stays home doing housework. Although, one day around town she spots her husband at a motel. As suspicious as Evelyn finds this, once she follows Clifford and finds the truth, the possibility of cheating is the last thing Evelyn worries about. A political commentary on gender roles and the expectations of women in modern society.
Voicemails for Isabelle
Jill and Isabelle are best friends before they’re sisters. Isabelle suffers from cystic fibrosis and has consistently lived life experiences through Jill. When Isabelle passes away, Jill copes with the loss by leaving Isabelle voicemails. Little does Jill know there is someone else already on the other end. A rom com written from the viewpoint of a woman, where Jill is written like the woman we need represented more.
