Top Personal Skills for Tomorrow’s Global Leaders

Do you ever wonder what you could be doing to step ahead into your future career, but aren’t sure where to start while living in an uncertain world?


John C.Maxwell said that “If you wouldn’t follow yourself, why should anyone else?”. I am pretty sure that most of our business students heard many times from the professors about managing yourself is the first thing you should learn If you want to be a good manager or leader. In all our management and leadership programmes, we start with a greater understanding of ourselves first and then learn how to manage external factors and how to lead other people. Not only changing world makes us more vulnerable against the unpredictability, but also gives us more opportunity to discover ourselves and develop our skills during this strange period of times.


Therefore, I would like to share with you that “Top 8 personal skills for tomorrow’s global leaders” which based on my observed information and absorbed knowledge from the fast-paced world.


1. Self-Awareness

These days, self-awareness is one of the most essential skills that might people have for managing their selves and leading others better whilst adapting more smoothly in unpredictable situations.





 

2. Positive Thinking

Positive thinking can go a long way not only in the professional environment but also in private environments. Indeed, a positive attitude can create a happy and healthy atmosphere when something does not go quite as planned like the current world.



 

3. Emotional intelligence (EQ)

Emotional intelligence is known as EQ (emotional quotient) which is one of the most important skills for the future potential leaders. EQ has four components, such as self-management, self-awareness, social awareness, and relationship management. This skill encourages to manage own emotions to reduce stress, communicate effectively, overcome challenges, adapt the changing situations and so on.

 

4. Creativity

Day by day, the world is getting more challenging in the way of different aspects, such as career, business, self-development and more. Therefore, creativity can help to build your own differentiation from others in other to survive in competitive environments.


 

5. Stress Management

Stress is directly connected to our physical and mental health. Therefore, it clearly shows how important to know that manage our stress in stressful situations. Stress management not only helps us break the hold stress has on our life, but also support our productivity, happiness, health and effectiveness within our personal space and professional space


 

6. Communication Skills

As a leader, people are required to express themselves sufficiently to their team members to be clearer and more effective to avoid the future misunderstanding or potential risks.

 

7. Learning Ability

As we face now, the world is changing quickly, and it is hard to predict as well as difficult to adapt to those challenges come along with it. So, it is not just the world leaders need to keep an eye on, also we must have to have a learning ability to survive and evolve during the changing periods.

 

8. Digital Skills

As we mentioned above, we acquire new skills and knowledge for stepping ahead with the fast-paced world. As the years go by, more and more work is getting done via digital. The current condition pushes us into working more in the remote environment and it makes us more dependent on digital technology. Therefore, this demand requires us to acquire more digital skills in the future.
